During the years I helped many students to get rid of their fear of speaking foreign languages. It is a very rewarding job and there are many success stories, but one really stands out.
One day a man came to see me. When I opened the door, there he was, a tall, bald, well-built man, all dressed in black. He was imposing. He looked very nervous, preoccupied. I invited him in and we started talking. He told me about recently getting a job offer from England which he would gladly accept if there wasn’t for his unexplained, enormous fear to speak English. I right away asked him if he knows the reason, but he couldn’t recall anything. It turned out he was an ex-police officer, who had also served in Afghanistan for a few years, being in the war zone on a daily basis. He was very brave, used to the nearness of death, but only the thought of communicating in English made him literary panic. No logical explanation. We started working. I still clearly remember that one statement I made him repeat after me, while we were tapping: “Being a soldier I’m not afraid of dying, however I’m afraid to speak English”. And that changed everything. He said to me: “…hmm, but this is ridiculous”. I said: “Well, it is, but this is your reality”. At the end of the session I asked him to imagine and visualize all the possible situations he could find himself in, during the interview and later during work and see how he feels. He told me he is excited, can’t wait to go and try, no trace of fear. I’ve never seen him again. Later I’ve found out that he got the job and moved with his family to England. We didn’t discovered the reason, there was no need. The fear dissolved as soon as consciousness shred a light onto it. Fear is an interesting phenomenon. It`s an energetic block. Sometimes goes away instantly sometimes has different aspects to it which need to be addressed individually for the problem to disappear for good.
